      Fediverseの日本語圏は、2017年4月の急激な膨張が落ち着いてからは、ゆっくりと衰退に向かっている。日本語圏に限定しなければ、switter.atやbofa.lolのような個性的な新興勢力が勃興したし、2018年5月のブラジルにおけるマストドンブームでは、mstdn.ioをはじめとする複数のインスタンスでユーザーが急増した。とはいえ、bofa.lolはすでに消滅している。

      ところで、つくみずの漫画「少女終末旅行」、または、それを原作とするアニメはご覧いただけただろうか？ チトによれば「生きてるって、終わりがあるってことなんだ」とのことだが、実際のストーリーはもうすこし複雑である。チトとユーリが魚を助け、建設用自律機械を爆破したように、生きているものたちは「終わり」を意図的に引き伸ばしたり、早めたりしている。

      いつかはわからないが、日本語圏のFediverseはこのまま衰退し、終わっていくだろう。あるいは、すべてのConsumer Generated Mediaが終わるかもしれない。

      では、終わりの場所からこれまでのできごとを振り返ったとき、思い出したいのは、人間関係の距離感を認識することが苦手だったり、他のメンバーの自尊心を満足させるための努力を怠ったりした者を、鳥に追い返したことだろうか。あるいは、苦しみながらも最後の一人まで収容しようと試行を重ねたことだろうか。

      自分たちの大切な場所の秩序を乱そうとするもの、自分たちにとって不快感の原因になるものを必死に追い出したとしても、自分たちの場所、あるいは「自分たち」という集団を、永久に維持し続けることはできない。私たちを追い出す者と追い出される者に分節したとしても、それは早いか遅いかの違いにすぎない。

      もう少しテクニカルな話をすると、同じインスタンス、あるいは文化圏の近いインスタンスにいる異常者に対して、インターネットをやめて治療に専念するように求める言説は多く聞かれる。しかし、インターネットの利用を制限することが、メンタルヘルスの回復につながることは稀である。例えば、不眠の症状に対しては、深夜に電子機器の利用を制限することが、改善につながる可能性がある。しかし、他の多くの症状に対しては、インターネットの利用は中立的である。

      実際のところ、インターネットをやめて治療に専念するように求める言説は、単に、自分たちにとって都合のいい願望を、異常者に押し付けているにすぎない。健常者が異常者に対して、都合のいい患者像を押し付けることは傲慢であるし、それが自分たちにとって快適な空間を守るためであればなおさらである。

      来るべきものが来たとき、私は、「生きるのは最高だったよね」などと笑っていられる自信はない。想像するに、そのとき私は、ただ無言で、デーモンのプロセスを停止するのではないか。
