@megver83 Interesting idea. Currently #AndStatus is being published in the "main" #FDroid repository with publishing rule allowing to publish release builds only (tag ends with "-release") But if only I knew another F-Droid repo with its own metadata, I could set other publishing rule there: specifically for Beta testing... Do you know any candidate for such public "Beta releases repository"?
Since its creation years ago AndStatus used only one background process (thread) to post and to download information from the Internet. Images downloads were considered low priority tasks, so avatars and attachments appeared noticeably later than text of a timeline, especially when multiple timelines and accounts were synced one after one. With this release a separate process is responsible for images downloading, so overall syncing performance improvement should be visible.
1. This release was focused on supporting new and improved #ActivityPub features that appeared both in #Pleroma and, surprisingly, in #Mastodon also. You can really start experimenting with ActivityPub social network type if you have an account at Pleroma site with latest v.2.x Pleroma builds... Posting with image attachments works.
2. Mastodon (not AndStatus!) doesn't give you enough features to switch client connection to ActivityPub simply because Home timeline and posting via ActivityPub connection is not supported yet (corresponding pages give 404 Not found error). But you can see our own posts on Mastodon servers and navigate to other Actors and their post via them (you can see profiles of other Actors and see their posts...). You can even play with Mastodon as an "ActivityPub" type Social network in AndStatus today! But prepare to see empty Home timeline and to be read-only there for now. Switch to "Sent" timeline and see your Actor's posts, see other actors and their posts similarly... These new Mastodon improvements make me very optimistic about the future of ActivityPub in client apps across all server platforms.
3. Some important fixes, including more Avatars and Images will be shown.
4. More convenience for developers. Logging of network level messages (including response headers) improved. Even file names with responses are much clearer now, e.g. 2020-04-25-03-34-51-663_social.tulsa.ok.us-oauth_register_client_response.json or 2020-04-25-03-35-02-235_mastodon.technology-get_actor_response.json (real names from my log). Remember that logs are stored for 10 days and can be optionally included in a Backup!
@coolboymew Thank you for the feedback. As I see you mentions not "outdated things" but features/settings that didn't meet your expectations or were unusual for you :-) Most of what you mentioned can be configured in #AndStatus settings. Including a list of timelines to be shown, whether or not request all notes/tweets or recent only... Notifications were improved a year or two ago and now you can see "Unread notifications" timeline (yes, another timeline :-) ) and explicitly mark all notifications as read.
@rmbl I don't think that this is a cause. I have 300000 notes already and didn't notice jumping to too old posts. Try to turn off "Collapse duplicates" ?! @pedro
@rmbl Oh, I see that I was confused a bit about terminology. The "Group" notion in #ActivityPub is about a group of Actors (people etc.), but we are talking here about a named "Collection" of notes/activities. But actually GNU Social calls such collections "Groups" :-) I'm creating descriptions and comparisons of Groups/Lists notions in different types of social networks, supported by #AndStatus, here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/248#issuecomment-219826572
No, I don't use IRC. That way of communication is in another Universe for me :-)
@rmbl Sometimes I need the same, and I also feel that it is inconvenient to keep "unread" all notifications in order not to forget one of them. Recently I started implementation of Group/Lists support in #AndStatus. And I see that creation of some personal "ToDo" group and adding any note/ activity to that group could help in such cases. Unfortunately AFAIK only #ActivityPub supports such actions, meaning that such custom groups of notes could be automatically synced between User's devices or even shared... Moreover, each "Social network" in #AndStatus logically should have its own group... So it seems that I will start from some device-local groups (like tags...) that can be easily viewed... @fedilab
@rmbl We have only one "Mark all as read" button for now. What exactly do you want to clear? Maybe turning off some types of notifications in Settings -> Notifications will work better for you?
@roka As I remember, #AndStatus gets the limit from Mastodon's configuration... Please try to go to AndStatus Settings -> Accounts -> Manage Accounts -> Select your account and then Reverify credentials. Do you see updated toot length limit?
@colegota "Can't synchronize" for "Everything" Timeline is normal (for now...) meaning that there is no such timeline to sync. But we could interprete syncing "Everything" Timeline as "Sync all timelines"... Maybe this will be more natural?!
