DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Thursday, 08-Sep-2022 20:32:02 JST DCent STEP 2) Create an I2P tunnel from device to server
--------------------------------------------------------------
- Run the router.
- Instructions for 'I2P for Android' app:
. - Select 'TUNNELS'
. - While in 'Client tunnels' subsection tap the plus (+) button,
. - Select Client tunnel > Standard client
. - Jump down in these instructions to "Instructions for both".
- Instructions for 'i2prouter'
. - Go to the Hidden Service Manager (http://127.0.0.1:7657/i2ptunnelmgr) and scroll to "New client tunnel", ensuring 'Standard' (default) is the 'type', and hit 'Create'.
- Instructions for both (loosely ordered):
. - Set 'Name' / 'Description' to anything. 'XMPP' is fine.
. - Tick 'Automatically start tunnel when router starts' (or 'Auto-start' in app) if you don't want to remember to enable the connection.
. - Set 'Port' (or 'Binding port' in the app) to '5222' (default for XMPP)
. - Ensure 'Reachable by' is '127.0.0.1' (default)
. - Set Tunnel Destination to that which was sent (eg. long key ending with ...f2eswa6pq.b32.i2p). The app will helpfully warn you if the address/key is completely invalid.
. - i2prouter only: It will likely help anonymity to enable "Share tunnels with other clients" (in the app this is enabled automatically).
. - Select 'CREATE TUNNEL' (or 'Save' in i2prouter) when done.
. - The tunnel should now appear in the 'Client tunnels' list.
Congrats! You have a tunnel to the server!!! Now to send IMs into the tunnel 😛 -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Thursday, 08-Sep-2022 20:25:34 JST DCent INSTANT MESSAGING made invisible, and minus the dot-cons!
===============================================
These are the instructions to instant message (IM) a person like myself over the invisible internet (I2P) and using the open messaging protocol, XMPP. It works on all devices and desktops, including Mac, but not iOS (general tip: avoid apple).
STEP 1) Get I2PRouter (or i2pd)
----------------------------------------
- Visit https://geti2p.net/en/download and get 'i2prouter' for the device you intend to IM from (optionally get 'i2pd' instead, but I like to recommend i2prouter because it comes with some nice things like a torrent client. These instructions are thus for i2prouter and 'I2P for Android', although they *may* match very closely to i2pd).
- OPTIONAL BEST PRACTICE: You may want to verify the downloaded file by downloading the accompanying "sig" file into the same folder and using 'pgp4win' or the `gpg --verify-files <SIG_FILE>` command on your GNU+Linux.

Moving council away from proprietary software to a more equitable and ethical solution will give council greater control over how it can serves its functions, and secure long-term savings, not just in terms of licensing fees but also in terms of overall resilience against economic forces that are not always based on the realities we face but on speculations and other underhanded means.
Using freedom-respecting software that anyone can use will create greater scope for innovation, interoperability, transparency and equity; things we desperately need in the 21st century, yet in Australia we seem to lag behind.

DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Thursday, 08-Sep-2022 16:47:42 JST DCent Yes, I have decided to again run for mayor.
I still stand for "COMMUNITY-SCALE DEVELOPMENT— NOT OVERDEVELOPMENT", for protecting our heritage, character and environment. Still for resisting tree canopy loss from less scrupulous developers, who would see our great region turn into a hot mess.
But I now come with a stronger vision to help council transition from proprietary software to Free-license + Open Source (FOS) software.

DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Thursday, 08-Sep-2022 15:41:20 JST DCent Hi folks,
I'm trying to determine how to see all the "notifications" since I logged on. I'd like to see all the faves, boosts *and* replies/messages.
Is there a page that does that, or am I not seeing it because I have JS disabled? Maybe I should just enable the JS but I'm trying to do as much as possible without it, as a sort of test. -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Thursday, 08-Sep-2022 15:34:20 JST DCent Hi Spookie, I hear that you are the front-end dev for GNUSocial so I'd like to try to subscribe. 🙂 -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Thursday, 08-Sep-2022 15:29:08 JST DCent Fantastic! How delightful it was to just come online today to see the CSS recommendations I put forward a few days ago adopted.
Very nice!
@administrator I will very likely have some more improvements in the pipeline.
BTW are these changes going upstream. I would fully support that AGPLv3 licensed, etc. 🙂 -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Sep-2022 10:12:02 JST DCent Hi @administrator, as an exercise in trying to make the default 'elbinario' theme a bit more visually pleasing I have done (and fixed) a few things. You can add this CSS to any page in the browser.
It's not everything that I would do but its a start. There are some issues with the HTML for example commas in the LIST section are not directly after the comma separated item and so their are new lines that start with commas. Also, when tagging sometimes the
'@' symbol is not part of the link, which looks messy. Likewise the '#' symbol in hashtags is not part of the link. Again, looks messy.
The CSS though, starts in the next message.

DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Sep-2022 07:49:47 JST DCent Odd... can you Inspect the element to see what the CSS is reverting to? -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Sep-2022 05:06:14 JST DCent It looks like line 1859. -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Sep-2022 04:21:31 JST DCent @administrator The other front-end issue is in your(?) default 'elbinario' theme. When hovering over the Send button, for example a new border width is added to the button, making all the content below that button jump down.
To fix, in display.css, it seemed that changing border-width from 0 to 1px to match the hover thickness, fixed the issue, ie.
For elements:
.form_notice input.submit, .form_settings input.submit, .form_settings input.cancel, #form_invite input.submit, .entity_subscribe .dialogbox input.submit_dialogbox, .entity_tag .dialogbox input.submit_dialogbox, .form_repeat.dialogbox input.submit_dialogbox
{
border-width: 1px; /* NOT 0 */
} -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Sep-2022 04:07:34 JST DCent Thanks.
In both the 'elbinario' and 'neo-quitter' themes, which have the elegant "*gnu*social" logo in the top-left, CSS needs to be:
address {
background-position: -10px -601px; /* not -600px */
}
Ie. 1 pixel upward so the transparent(?) part in the image doesn't show a thin line artifact at the top of the element.
Do you see the thin line?
Whether the developer also wants to change the :hover image position is purely up to them. I personally like the way the logo goes down one pixel on hover. -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Saturday, 03-Sep-2022 23:20:35 JST DCent I'm sort of disappointed that none of the three developers listed have an account on Fedi. The lead, Diego, says he has one and then I try it and the site doesn't work and then I see that he writes the instance no longer works below the link. See:
https://www.diogo.site/about/
I just have some very basic things to share changing something by 1 pixel etc. I don't have time to manage an account on a git repo, as great as gitea is, I just don't.
Maybe I will get around to reporting things one day. -
DCent (dcent@gnusocial.net)'s status on Saturday, 03-Sep-2022 21:16:51 JST DCent Two-hundred is okay. It's possible that 300 would probably be better. I know that Mastodon defaulted to something like 500 but maybe that is too much.
I actually wasn't referring to your limit in the Settings page after a person is logged in but in the "signup page" before they were logged in. The signup interface kept repeating that I was over 100 when I wasn't. -
