At the start of level 59 in wanikani now.... just two levels to go

Now I just gotta get it to scrape nginx ingress metrics and maybe set up grafana. Though I do most of my queries manually in Prometheus so I don't know if I really need it

Got Prometheus operator working locally, and scraping kubelet metrics. Somehow can't get node_exporter to work but it might just be permissions issues running locally

@lae oh I mean specifically Prometheus operator (kubernetes specific). I've used Prometheus a lot at work, I've just never set it up the "right" way on kube, with the operator that auto-discovers scrape targets by tag, and adding all the exporters

I basically have all the planned services working in local kubernetes (including auto-renewing letsencrypt certs via dns-01), now just gotta figure out the Prometheus operator stuff to get some metrics

oh shoot I didn't realize docker for mac has single-node kubernetes built in. Why do I even need minikube, then

highly appreciate how all this infrastructure stuff we use at work is also applicable to my own hobbies

all this reading about setting up kubernetes ingress controllers has led me to the conclusion that I should just set up internal services with nodeports and have an nginx load balancer outside the cluster that routes to the nodeports. Mostly because I don't want to pay extra for the built-in digitalocean load balancers.

and it turns out this is almost exactly the same setup we have at work (though with haproxy and AWS instead, and for different reasons unrelated to pricing)
