      by Nestlé研究者たちが最先端の科学的研究を行って技術を進歩させていくためには、政府による研究資金の提供が必要不可欠です。その一方で研究資金の使い道を政府が指定することになれば、自由な学問が妨げられてしまいます。そんな研究資金と政府の問題について、1918年にイギリスの政治家であったリチャード・バードン・ホールデン氏は「研究資金の使い道は政治家ではなく研究者によって決められるべきだ」という「Haldane principle(ホールデンの原則)」を提唱しました。
