@nepfag One of my favorite things about you is that you can shitpost in English with the best of them but your German shitposts are top-tier. :cirnoHeh:

@kfist Lets drink to that! :prost:

@kfist Honestly though, being able to finish the new Gotthard tunnel (a $10bn project) ahead of time and under budget will let us meme on the rest of Europe for decades to come. It's as beautiful as a feat of engineering as a meme symbol.

@nepfag My favorite part about big engineering projects is that they clearly demonstrate the ambient corruption of the local areas. The local international airport recently (in the past decade) had a big expansion with a new runway and everything but it was over budget and currently under-utilized. Using the new facilities is really bizarre and it feels sterile, and aircraft using the new runway are super inconvenienced since it takes an extra 15-20 minutes to taxi to the terminal because this runway is so YUGE AND SUPER MODERN. It's a hassle.
But that's nothing compared to a local transit project which is already 2 billion dollars over budget before it even started and it's being pushed through during a recession while city revenues are at a record low for the past 30 years because of a combination of overtaxing business and funding underutilized or unnecessary projects.
The usual suspects are to blame. Through their acts you shall know them.

@kfist I attribute a lot of this to something unique in Swiss government projects. We don't have to pick the lowest bidder. It's perfectly fine to choose a more expensive one if their bid seems more realistic or if they seem to have more experience in that area.
