   opus is a lot better than mp3 but these days it's not so important, mp3 is just as free and usually better supported.

     @tbr it's not like anyone can meaningfully distinguish an 128kb mp3 from lossless anyway, so if opus can do it in 96kbps, that's impressive, but not very useful.
     
     although i do love opus for super small audiobooks / podcasts.
