we get to watch a billionaire and his gf argue in real time
-
@mewmew @izarella @Moon @NeikoCat that's not true. it's really bad for lonely trying-to-find-friends teenagers who get cut-out by friend groups and kill themselves
-
@izarella @Moon @NeikoCat it is. But they really do not matter.Most people who get cancelled are either celebrities (and there's no problem there for obvious reasons) or people caught on camera doing really shitty things. If you're neither you should be fine (especially if you avoid Twitter like the plague which you should do anyway if you love yourself at all)
-
@mewmew @Moon @NeikoCat I hope that's the case, because it gets really tiring trying not to misstep and have the screeching twitter mob after you.
-
@izarella @Moon @NeikoCat understandable but the only way to get them to disappear is to annoy them.Keep in mind less than 20% of people like political correctness, and a majority of progressives, liberals, conservatives, blacks, whites, Asians, etc all dislike it. It's really unpopular. It's only because people pretend that it matters that it does.
-
@mewmew @Moon @NeikoCat I'm always scared of those people coming after me to get me fired/arrested/go after my family, is more my reason for worry.
-
@izarella @Moon @NeikoCat *<20%, am dumbass
-
@izarella @Moon @NeikoCat stop caring what >20% of people think, they're irrelevant
-
@Moon @NeikoCat I feel like the floor keeps shifting under my feet on what is "acceptable"
-
@NeikoCat shouldn't it be progressive to say that pronouns suck, fuck I can't even keep up
-
@mewmew @Moon @NeikoCat @izarella the whole thing is just bullying. PC being "culturally acceptable", though, makes it more prevalent
-
@shmibs @Moon @NeikoCat @izarella that's just plain old bullying
-
@izarella @Moon @NeikoCat @mewmew it was happening by 10 years ago
-
@shmibs @mewmew @Moon @NeikoCat Does this shit happen IRL among zoomers these days?
-
@izarella @Moon @NeikoCat @mewmew seems becoming more and more common, though, yeh
-
@shmibs @NeikoCat @izarella @mewmew social media and "always-on" Internet probably makes this a lot worse than it used to be. Worse than even in-person bullying because you can never get away.
-
@mewmew @izarella @Moon @NeikoCat both bullying and celebrity bashing have always been a thing. the role of political correctness stuff is to become a socially-acceptable motive for mocking and excluding people, so that when it happens more people join in and fewer people disagreeand, if we're talking about the us, it's had pc stuff for a long while, but previously it was mostly only cared about by older generations (stuff like "no swearing on t.v."). the current form is different because younger generations are joining in as well, meaning more bullying among kidsextreme end of this spectrum is blasphemy law with death penalty and public executions/witch hunts, though long way to go still to bring that stuff back
-
@izarella @shmibs @Moon @NeikoCat meh. Not as common as people think. Drama and bullying transcends generations and of course people will use new social tools to execute them.
-
@shmibs @Moon @NeikoCat @mewmew That's insane, I had a hard enough time finding friends then anyway, I would never have made it now.No wonder guys end up going the knee socks and swastikas route.
-
@mewmew @Moon @NeikoCat @izarella you think most people weren't swearing freely in like the 70s~90s? all it takes is that "think of the children" vocal minority to set things off
-
@shmibs @Moon @NeikoCat @izarella the difference is that with modern political correctness, only a minority actually supports it. Obscenity laws were supported by most people in the past.
-
@shmibs @mewmew @NeikoCat @izarella "Moral Majority" (not really majority) in the 80s probably a good example of a flipped-script PC era.
