> The main themes of Parasite are class conflict, social inequality and wealth disparity.thanks for telling us, we actually wouldn't have known otherwise
-
@lain i thought the main themes were knife, poker-thingy, and rock
-
@lain actually had to eye-close that part, though; brother shared XX
-
@shmibs that's what i got, too.
-
@shmibs i think the film would have worked as a tragedy, but not as this comedy/thriller thing. it's just too cruel.
-
@lain yeh, felt so close there, exploding-toilet, and then like immediately undid everything with- exposition-dad- pointless violins- but wait; there's more! ending
-
@caseyp @lain @Moon eh, the "your lovely rain is my house flooding" is pretty straight-forwards; just got too distract by the edge after that
-
@lain @Moon @shmibs I think the claim that it is "anti-rich" is probably the most surface-level, brain dead way of understanding its themes. Not that I can say what the writer at any point is thinking definitively, it definitely doesnt seem "anti-rich"...
-
@Moon @shmibs i would have thought 'yep, another bong joon-ho' without all the hype. It's not boring but also not really worth your time if you have something better to do the bioshock infinite of movies.also if this is supposed to be an anti-rich movie, they shouldn't have made the rich pretty much flawless and the poor evil.
-
@shmibs @lain I haven't seen it yet it got positive reviews everywhere, but you guys didn't like it?
-
@caseyp @lain @Moon anti-rich and anti-richpeople, don't think are the same, but
-
@lain @Moon @shmibs Being about "late-stage capitalism" does not make it 'anti-rich' though. As you said, the poor people are 'evil'. Its said in the movie, by one of those evil people, "the rich can afford to be good people". Whether that is true or not is a different discussion. Whether their behavior is fully, partially, or not at all justified is a different discussion. The main point is how those characters have begun to feel and behave based on their environment. Thats why I think anti-rich sentiment, if the author intended it, would even be dumb. I think the result we got is rather non-opinionated. There are characters formed, in some way, by their environment and they respond to it in their own ways. Judgement calls after that really of no proper place in source.Random 2 cents. This is why I'm glad I'd never seen the director before and didnt read anyone else's opinions about its themes before I watched, so I didnt feel a need to affix values to the characters as I watched.

@caseyp @Moon @shmibs i agree but the author said it's about late-stage capitalism
