i watched a video of the halo 3 audio guys doing the foley stuff, to make the sound of the warthog exploding they had a guy smashing a chinese wok with breeze blocks and an axe

@augustus yeah I remember seeing that in the video, like sounds like it's a good idea but the execution just seems poor when all guns end up sounding super weak

@shpuld they said they used a "smart mixer" in 3 to live mix the multiple audio sources in the environment, it's probably why

@augustus the video is great but when I actually played the game I thought the aound mixing was weak as fuck and until that point halo ce still was the strongest in the series in terms of sound

@shmibs @augustus it's not like the explosions were particularly loud in the earlier games either, nothing that bothers you, but still sounds like what it should be. the combat just lacks punch and ends up unsatisfying with no real benefits
