@Kagekokoro How Never mind, you don't need to learn tons of kanjis, of course. In fact the number of essential kanjis we use in daily life is as little as 1,000. And you can (and should) learn kanjis while you learn words. If you've learn many words, you come to know kanji unconsciously.

@shovel kanji makes less and less sense the more I get into it, I had it idealized and my ideals are slowly crumbling kanji to kanji... :cirnoCry:

@Kagekokoro So I think it's good to master these 1,000 kanjis and put aside the others. There are a lot of kanjis that appear only in rare case. For example, 興味津々 is a popular word but few Japanese know about the meaning of 津々 (but everyone know 興味) Not a few people write 興味しんしん. 「彗」 never appears today except as 彗星(comet).
