   @augustus @lain press gets labelled as being "a branch of government" a lot in context of the whole checks-and-balances thing, in which context separation makes sense

     @lain I just think that forcing press + police to be the same, both private, or both state run, is interesting because libertarians would be more amenable to the idea of both being private, and left-leaning types would have to be immediately confronted with the idea that they support enforced privatisation of the press (and amusingly no other industries)

     can you imagine how horrible it would be if the government run the media? they'd all just put out the same stories with the same line and it'd be total conformity across all the media. imagine such a hell!
