roka (roka@pl.smuglo.li)'s status on Thursday, 17-Sep-2020 06:32:27 JST roka @shou @Dolus @deadheat the problem is that half of Enemy Zero is FMVs rendered in-game at 144xsomething resolution and heavily compressed with Duck's TrueMotion codec (which was the predecessor to VP family of codecs now developed by Google for WebM purposes). It clashes poorly with the 3D sections. -
roka (roka@pl.smuglo.li)'s status on Thursday, 17-Sep-2020 07:05:44 JST roka @shou @Dolus @deadheat the funniest bit is that it isn't as bad on the Saturn since the whole game runs in small res and TVs would've fixed it. The video files in the PC port are exactly the same and it runs in 640x480 though – and scaling used by the engine is poor. That file btw is one of the extras stored on the Saturn disc as BMPs. It's the native renders they produced before scaling and compression back in 1996 ehhhh

This is a good read if you haven't already http://scanlines.hazard-city.de/ roka likes this.
