read news about a guy here who found out his kid wasn't actually his 2 years after the birth, couldn't get courts to cancel the legal paternity, and courts ruled he should pay child support for the full 18 years. unlucko buddy
-
@shpuld i don't understand how this is unluckylike, you have a child...
-
@shpuld custody? if not then it's a bad law, sure..
-
@shmibs he wasn't together with the mother anymore it seems, presumably because of her cheating on him
-
@shpuld mmmwell, to me, forcing someone to pay without custody is outdated and dumb in places where women can jorb. don't get why paternity testing should have anything to do with anything, though XX
-
@shmibs so from what I understood, the kid lives the actual biological mother, this non-biological father claims the mother is more than well enough to raise the kid without the child support payments but courts decided he still has to pay every month to raise a kid of someone else's
-
@eal @shpuld seems the "actual parent" is the one who had custody of and cared for the child for two yearsget that some people think differently, but don't personally understand why
-
@shmibs @shpuld I don't get it either, why should it not matter if you actually are the child's parent when deciding things like custody and child support?
