@mametsuko this form (viertel 10, dreiviertel 10) is not used in northern germany, people there won't understand you if you say it.
-
@shpuld @lain @mametsuko thankfully these are old-people-only phrases for here nowjust say the time directly XX
-
@lain @mametsuko ah so the same as in most languages I know, in finnish we also say "varttia vaille" or "varttia yli" for "quarter to" and "quarter past"and when talking about amounts of time we might say kolme varttia for 45 minutes, like "how long until you come over?" "3 quarters (45min)"
-
@shpuld @mametsuko only in 'viertel vor' and 'viertel nach'. viertel vor 5 = 4:45.
-
@lain @mametsuko do you use viertel at all when saying times?
-
@shpuld @lain @mametsuko just leave off "minutes" and say 15, people do here now"be there in 15"
-
@shmibs @lain @mametsuko I don't have any problem with it, it's much quicker to say varttia vaille than viistoista vaille, it's just an immediate replacement for 15 minutes
-
@shpuld @lain @mametsuko long words for long finns
-
@shmibs @lain @mametsuko in my example I already left out minutes, viistoista or viisitoista when not shortening is a lot of syllables
