Unfortunately #fedi is rather ill-suited to my main mode of communication, which is to share information. The loss rate is much too high. Or more accurately, the cross section (Wirkungsquerschnitt) for the post-reader interaction is too low.
I could off course try to increase the luminosity but that would conflict with the sentiment in my previous post.

@wim_v12e Hi, Fediverse is a timeline-based communication, so the loss rate may be high. I have set up a Matrix Synapse server to try out the new federation. @wim_v12e Well, I understand. I think the medium closest to your idea is blogging, don't you? You can read it anytime and comment on it. I think it's a very slow media that has been around for a long time.

@toneji Thank you for the invitation. But matrix is real-time, so the information cross section will be even lower than on #fedi. I think it is a great way to interact with people, but to share information with a lot of people I think a slower moving medium is needed.

@kensanata @wim_v12e It's a very difficult and troubling issue. I like to write poetry, but when I write it on my blog and share it on Fediverse, not many people come to read it. Maybe people on the Fediverse have different interests than I do. The Matrix Synapse server I set up has good notifications, so users can create any room they want, and when they post in it, other users will be notified. This might be a good way to do it.

@wim_v12e I think there's also an expectation mismatch: I'm engaging in a low-effort social media site and am offered links to a deep read… I don't know what that means. For myself, it means that I rarely post links to my blog. I do have a bot for the few people who actually care to follow my blog via the fediverse, though. But it doesn't work well for me as "marketing" (i.e. getting the word out). So I don't even try. All of this based on zero measurements and tons of feels. ???? @toneji

@toneji Indeed, and that is what I do. But to get readers, people must know about my blog. So I post about my new articles on #fedi.
My observation is that these posts reach very few people, because the cross section is low.

For me personally, I can't see a better alternative though. I don't think anyone is subscribed to my RSS feed, and the chance of anyone finding my blog via a direct search is vanishingly small. So I just post and hope ???? . After all, even when my posts sink like a stone, I still like fedi.

@kensanata It is definitely a mismatch between usage models, which I suppose translates to expectations. I am on fedi mostly to engage with people and to post pictures ???? . But I am also here to learn. And for learning, blog posts are great. But most people are not here to learn. A lot of people don't even seem to be here to engage, or they engage in a very different way.
