     @Moon @nik @r000t i can't really wrap my head around not using protection, but there are loads of lgbt outreach programs who try to teach safe sex practices. its a shame that schools don't teach safe sex though and the culture surrounding those policies doesn't help anything either.

     @maxmustermann @Moon @mystik @nik @r000t @xj9 vaccines come in many variants, and "gives you a weaker form of the disease" is a raritythe vaccine that vaccination (cow-ification) is named after was for smallpox, because they'd give people cowpox, a related virus that spread in cows and didn't really hurt humans. other early vaccines (like for rabies) and some still today are attenuated forms of the virus, wherein by trial and error the target virus is made to mutate a bunch until it evolves into a related form that doesn't cause the disease, or only barely. this is used for some flu vaccines today. this is a somewhat risky route to take when dealing with dangerous viruses, though, because there's always a chance it might mutate back towards the original more-dangerous form. this has famously happened with the oral polio virus, which brought the instance rate of wild polio down to such a degree that eventually it became more likely people would get polio from vaccine virus that was circulating through the sewage system. it's being phased out now, but difficult to get certain countries to switchthresholdthe above are the only two vaccine variants that could feasibly give you a "weaker form of the disease". other vaccines use virions with no genetic material so they can't reproduce at all, or use smaller protein chunks from the capsid. this way your immune system will recognise the virus when it sees it later, but getting the disease from it is impossible. the current coronavirus vaccines are like this. in the past it's been common to use cells in culture (or chicken eggs or whatever) to produce these bits of virus, store them, and stab them into people later. these new ones instead use messenger rna, so your cells express the protein chunks directly, bypassing that whole expensive process of producing and isolatingso to summarise:- for a human to experience a disease, a virus needs to start reproducing in that human's body and reach some critical circulating mass- the likelihood of a vaccine giving you a "weaker form of the disease" is, in the case of attenuated vaccines, extremely low and, in the case of any other vaccine, 0%- the symptoms you experience from a vaccine are not the disease but instead your own immune system, responding to an intruder and learning to fight it. this can cause fever and aches and inflammation, but no disease- vaccines can include adjuvants, additives which also can't cause a disease but are used to help trigger your body's immune response, because a response is required for a vaccine to work- it's possible for your body's own immune response to be dangerous, i.e. allergic reaction -> anaphylactic shock. this has happened a couple of times to people with these vaccines, because they didn't know they were allergic to a common stabilising molecule that's present in many other medications. allergies like this happen with literally every medication, or anything else people put in their bodies (food, sex toys, whatever)

One of the sure signs a vaccine works is you getting a weaker form of the disease you are getting vaccinated against. Since you need two swabs from that crap you its sure thing. On the risk I am doxing myself, I am blaming a recent outbreak on the effectively run vaccination center inside a fucking convention center that doesn't have 24/7 ventilation through carbon filters and UV lights.

     The cloth coverings and bandanas? Those do nothing to protect *you*. This is correct. These only slow the spread, *in aggregate*, by reducing the number of droplets an asymptomatic carrier (that is, most people who get the virus) ejects, and by making them travel less distance.

     (K)N-95 masks work. Period. It's been proven, over and over and over again. No, nothing works 100% of the time. But the entire point is to *reduce*. You're essentially arguing that anything less than perfection isn't even worth doing. It's a bad faith argument at this point.

     But none of this was ever about science, or principles, or anything like that. You got your programming, you're faithfully executing it. The grown ups are assessing information and coming to rational decisions, and updating them when new information comes in.

The rules we have now led to arbitrary creation of potential hot spots. Since my local government isn't run by lunatics, I can ignore the circus and wait for it to fizzle out. (probably by another cucking of the latest strain.)
