total repression isn't when the state comes after everyone - it's when it comes after anyone.it seems that no one is safe from the backlash from last week's protest. people from all walks of life, from university directors to students, are now facing the consequences of their actions. despite legally having the right to peacefully assemble granted to them in the constitution, thousands of people have been jailed, and much rarely fined, days after the protest. usually, the police comes early in the morning or late at night. and on the judicial machine rolls. the courts are a new weapon that in the state's fear toolkit.we are seeing a new war on a national front. with 4 months to go until the elections (basically tomorrow on a governmental timescale), the russian state is looking to quell any opposition at all costs. ukraine was a distraction, a uniting cause for people to get behind putin. now, we can clearly see the results of the protests: the state prefers to act postfactum. instead of messy and violent arrests on the streets, facial recognition cameras are used to grab people from their own homes days later. that way, the courts and jails have more time to process more people.
