-
@eal and oily olivesrice and garlic are also asia, though
-
@eal huh, onion is asia too, apparently <_>
-
@eal mmm. just wondering what ole-timey europans did way back when before food was imported; seems bleak XX
-
@shmibs Eurasia is the old world. Also, those have been available in the western part as well for a good while thanks to trade.
-
@eal chili is kinda everywhere now toofor here, think the only europe-originating foodplants i use are olives for oil (or does mesopotamia for wheat count? do bake cookies sometimes
-
@shmibs European (especially mediterranean) foodstuffs don't seem bleak to me at all, with all the fish, lamb, pork, olives (+ oil), honey, fruit, herbs, cheese, bread, wine etc. available to them.Adding new world stuff was for sure an improvement, but potato and tomato were the only ones to have a huge impact.
-
@eal something like chilis (bell paired with habanero or jalapeño or something), black beans or toufu, citrus when in season, peanut (unsweetened peanut butter is great for cooking), spinach and kale are nice, tomato or tomatillo, corn tortilla or rice
-
@shmibs What would an average meal for you look like? that sounds kinda weird for an old world inhabitant.
-
@eal also cacao when it's available, but harvesting practice of that is kinda bad, so don't go and buy it; only use when it's around
-
@eal i guess kale is mediterranean actually; neat
