@shmibs >2. It’s normal to be afraid to wade into a politically toxic situation.this is the kill-shot that ends science 4eva in my worldview. this + "everything is political" = bye bye science, hello fake regime sciencei don't know how you feel about this issue shmibs but my guess is something like "well, they just looked at the theory a little harder and did some experiments and then science changed it's like just like it's supposed to. isn't that what you want? it's working!"
@augustus the point is that there were actually many scientists from the start looking into this possibility, but they largely avoided talking to media people because media people misunderstand and/or lie about everythingwhich is why you ignore the media and go straight to the scientists themselves
@augustus and more generally stop looking for "simple answers" to things; have to feel out what's most probably by aggregating and comparing many direct sources
@augustus true for science stuff but also "notable events", like protests. whatever news site you go to you get stuff that's second-hand, lacking context, and also with some spin filterwhen you have thousands of videos and complete livestreams, though, it's easy to go check for yourself. just like when there are thousands of scientists talking casually with each other, writing blog posts, and running their own podcasts. news sites aren't useful any more
