@yogthos russia and china are making me feel p optimistic rn. just not about the future of ppl in the west, or for my rapidly imploding homeland :/
-
@velartrill @yogthos both russia and china are leaning hard into the "erase all gay", "detain all dissenters", "acquire nearby territories who don't want us", "heavy-handed dictatorship for life" set of policies
-
@shmibs @yogthos > acquire nearby territories who don't want uscitation needed lmao
-
@velartrill @yogthos ...never heard of 香港 before?... <_>
-
@shmibs @yogthos yes, i have, and i'm aware that it's sovereign chinese territory that was stolen by force by the british empire, then returned by treaty. what about it
-
@velartrill @yogthos oh, so you like propaganda?friend and his family who were born there just fled with many others to taiwan because beijin deciding to stop playing games and do the domineering censorship control thing
-
@velartrill @yogthos like seriously, "united states is bad" does not mean other places are good...
-
@shmibs @yogthos i have absolutely zero sympathy for terrorists who kidnap journalists and set random people on fire because they're assmad that china wanted to be able to punish a man who abused a legal loophole to murder his girlfriend and keep other people from doing the same, or their gazillionaire backers. just because i'm american doesn't mean i'm ignorant enough to fall for this "evil chicoms want to take away muh liberties" bs, sorry. and speaking of ignorance, i also have absolutely zero interest in discussing anything related to politics with people who still haven't figured out that the US regime change apparatus doesn't throw gobs of money and sympathetic media coverage at good people.

@velartrill @yogthos try talking to people (like journalists or not-straight-people or undesired-ethnicity) who pekin is monitoring/disappearing/driving out of their homes before forming a reactionary opinion on thingsit is possible to know both that u.s. propaganda is dumb and that things in china are not pleasant. here is an example: https://nitter.fdn.fr/angelaxiaowu/status/1400228406235705345it seems like the u.s. hurt you, which makes sense. "enemies of enemies" are not friends, though, and large countries tend to become and stay so by stomping on people

@velartrill maybe try ask @nosleep / @rin / the other dozen or so russian kids around about post-navalny-protest roundups etc, or posts here: https://autizmo.xyz/~/Zonkspace/ (seems offline right now, so whenever comes back
