Star Wars was never deep, from the beginning. Its mindless fun and nothing more. ROTJ didnt ruin it, prequels didnt ruin it, sequels didnt ruin it. It was always just a vehicle to sell toys and merch to consoomers. No amount of deep lore or retcons will ever fix it
-
@Moon @dielan nothing will ever fix it, but those others were at least fun. the new things, first of those new movies was unwatchably bad, never bothered with the rest
-
@dielan I watched Episode 1 three times, looking intensely for symbolism and hidden messages, things going on in the background, anything. And it has nothing. It's empty as a warehouse.
-
@Moon @dielan "prequels" were big and dumb and flashy and kind of funny, even if sometimes unintentional. that new movie was a "so bad it's past good and into bad again"
-
@dielan @Moon first three things were heavily-engineered buddhist samurai flash-gordon in space or whatever, but it was ok because pretty, character-having settings and not bad acting.summarise as: weird-and-kinda-dumb-director-gets-heavily-polished-and-edited-by-staffnext three things were jumbled and broken but still pretty, character-having settings, some funny moments, and ewan mcgregor, who can make anything cute and fun.summarise as: weird-and-kinda-dumb-director-just-does-whatever-nonsense-things-he-wants-this-timethat latest movie saw was so heavily engineered it was stilted and idiosyncracy-free, and the character-having settings were gone, replaced with a the-universe-is-a-poorly-made-two-foot-wide-diorama feelingsummarise as: 30-people-fought-over-what-to-do-and-then-a-company-review-board-carefully-removed-anything-that-might-possibly-be-interesting-in-order-to-produce-a-maximally-bland-and-unoffensive-product

@MoonI have seen all the movies countless times actually. I dont hate them i just see them for what they really are @shmibs

@shmibs @dielan eps 1 and 2 were bloated and plodding imo. 3 kinda felt like star wars again. we got teased with darth maul but he was killed too quickly.
