     @Moon @yourhero @lelouchebag not a "flu variant"influenza viruses evolve really quickly compared to coronaviruses, which have an rna genome that's like at the upper end of possible complexity, requiring extra error correction in transcription, and don't do the fun recombination thingthis "delta" strain etc being more virulent is to be expected, and it's not anything to do with vaccines. contrarian culture can't be subverted overnight, so stopping the pandemic outright was never really a possibility, and once it has enough time to spread it's naturally going to adapt to humans as the new host. zoonotic spillovers always have to do that, adapting to better suit the new host (even if does turn out this particular virus was being studied in a lab, it obviously wasn't "engineered for humans" or something)stuff is complicated

     @Moon @yourhero Yeah but imagine if it was required to have a job, fly, go to school, etc. Only like 40-50% of people get the flu shot every year (in america), but in the case of needing it to do necessary things it'll have to be 100% or close to it

     @yourhero That's likely the goal. I expect there to either be "booster" shots or it becomes a yearly push for everyone to get "revaccinated". Vaccine companies would make bank if they could meme governments into getting like 4 billion people vaccinated on a yearly basis

     @Moon @yourhero @lelouchebag the point was that yearly flu vaccines are for influenza viruses, which significantly differ from coronaviruses in how they evolve, so it doesn't really make sense to compare them in that context

     @Moon @yourhero @lelouchebag mmmwell, comes down to whether this becomes an established thing that's passed around forever, yeh. idunno what to say to that, complicated predictions with randomness and modelling human behaviour etc...just that it shouldn't be quite so hard as influenza to get rid of, because it doesn't evolve so rapidly and doesn't have as many convenient non-human reservoirs. but whether that matters in the end...
