whenever I read "capitalism" i have to swap it out in my brain for "rule by merchants" and it usually makes better sense
-
@augustus @orekix @sim it is a problem when that production is draining water tables globallydustbowl two but worse
-
@orekix @sim i saw a tweet the other day about how such a large percentage of food that gets wasted in western countries and how this is an indictment of capitalism because of 'waste' and such. but the person just reframed it as "if the problem with your system is that it produces *too much* food then it's not a fucking problem"
-
@sim it's an interesting point about marxism that pop-marxists and phony leftists never really admit. that marx really just wanted to accelerate capitalism because it would collapse on its own. i remember asking Fediverse legend Bob Mottram about this once and he was like "uhh, i dunno, if Marx rly thought that then the Paris commune wouldn't have been necessary" capitalism will collapse, but also they need to strangle it and kill it in case it survives somehow
-
@augustus @sim yeah the whole point of marx against every other type of socialist of his time was to push capitalism to its limits, a critique of marx for instance on consumption was not that people consumed, but that capitalism couldn't possibly produce enough to meet the needs it generatedironically then every leftist that preaches anti-consumerism is actually joining forces with the conservatives and reactionaries alike by making capitalism persist by trying to recover some moral basis that it once had, marx whole point is instead to join the masses in the mass consumption and show that capitalism cannot ever satisfy all of their needs and need to be transcended to a new mode of production(i.e communism), here marx actually praises capitalism for its revolutionary role in democratizing luxury, some older marxists like trotsky understood this when they wrote that under communism the productive forces would reach higher levels to meet this, it didn't work out that way because economic planning is ass of course
-
@augustus Even worse, they heralded in the merchant class! Because they thought it would lead to their communist utopia quicker.
-
Marxists be like, I don't understand it, we replaced one group of parasitic materialists in power with a different group of parasitic materialists, and everybody is still alienated and spiritually unfulfilled wtf
-
@orekix @augustus @sim you mentioned the reproduction of speech, it literally invokes my disgust reflex to hear it. There was a talk at GDC (a game dev conference) about using historical materialism to make games and it was just nonsense. Not "I disagree with this so it's nonsense" but literally "this person is just stringing together words he heard from someone else"
-
@Moon @augustus @orekix @sim you mentioned the reproduction of speechthis is an example of speexnot the best, leastways.oga
-
@Moon @augustus @sim they shouldn't have stopped, now schools and universities are worse with gramscian influence everywhere
-
@orekix @augustus @sim I should clarify when I say education, I mean specifically I took many classes on Russian history at university in the 90s. I grew up in the 80s and in the USA in the 80s basically everything was capitalist propaganda until you got to university.
-
@orekix @augustus @sim Internet communists think that education about the Soviet Union is capitalist propaganda. Capitalist propaganda is all over the place, I know how to recognize it, there wasn't a lot of it in my education until we hit the 1980's, at that point I didn't think I could trust anything I read because it stank.
-
@Moon @augustus @sim when I was growing up it was common for people to still call those that were weird or just doing crazy stuff "soviético", during the civil war in the 80s it was anti-communist propaganda from the government to call people that were leftist agitators and part of fringe groups "soviets" and it just stuck as an insult being used by people sympathetic to the government and conservative partiesso yeah capitalist propaganda was all over the place during that time, but the rejection of reality and Truth by communists reaches a theological aspect that isn't properly studied, behind the what seems like a noble idea to bring about communism, to have a perfect society(heaven on earth) and to think that all evil is merely the result of historical systems that happen to not be theirs, it conceals what the communist really thinks, communism is pure but it is the humans that are disgusting for not being perfect
-
@Moon @augustus @sim if your teachers happened to be marxists themselves then they more focused on teaching you to reproduce their language until you're finally converted, it's like an initiation ritual
-
@Moon @sim part of the reason is that after the Soviet Union was born, there was a massive amount of Marx revisionism that went on and overstated his importance because they needed a bunch of shit upon which they could justify their rule (a 'political formula' as Mosca would say) so Marx was retrofitted to these political projects that it's not clear he would have ever really supported
-
@augustus @sim honestly you sift and concentrate the important points of all this better than any of my teachers or textbooks did. The truth is more damaging to communism than capitalist propaganda.
-
@augustus @sim this is not something I was ever very knowledgeable about but yeah I would ask aren't violent communist revolutions in the 20th century like trying to push a rope
-
@Moon @augustus @orekix @sim yeh, had a last release 2016 seems
-
@shmibs @augustus @orekix @sim wow, speex has gotten a lot better (my browser couldn't play this buv vlc could)
