     @georgia @orekix utilitarianism doesn't work either way, there's no way to do the calculus across individuals. I don't think that the only alternative is god, though.

     @orekix "If one does not believe in God, the only honest alternative is vulgar utilitarianism.The rest is rhetoric."perhaps it's rhetoric but i think an understanding that all meaning is contrived can lead to a non vulgar sort of utiliarianism, making meaning of things that needn't have it, conjuration of a transcendent ethic where it serves us, where it is beautiful. of course, a non contrived Meaning in this nihilist but hopeful framing would be not unlike God.
