@fristi it's fucked. I mean, why am I ever studying history on a CS BSc, what the shit
-
@rin @pony @fristi we had kinda between, required n credits from m departments but choice for which those specifically. think that way worked well, "be educated" does need some general awareness of other fields, but not force onto people exactly whatfavourite memory of such is being only compsci student in this 10-ish person "philosophy of computing" class, got context stuff that's actually really relevant but wouldn't from other classes, russell -> wittgenstein -> turing and philo-side logic foundations stuff and some interesting ethics discussion etc
-
@pony @fristi well, there is a diference between picking an extra course you think will be cool and getting a random course forced into you
-
@rin @fristi we kinda liked to pick extra courses for extra credits from either the philosophy or social sciences faculties (economy also had some nice ones), it was fun (most were courses meant for other programs and not core ones that were usually locked behind silly prerequisites or just locked for the specific study program though)

@pony @fristi @rin hs here was catholic school, which is kinda own-way nice but also pretended there was nothing worth mentioning in the world that happened after 13th century or outside europe. and idunno, universities being so much bigger can have broader range to choose from too, modern dance or contemporary azn history or whatever from someone whose career is dedicated to just thatthough did have basic writing and biology strict requirements because us hs just decides not to teach those half the time for religious reasons

@shmibs @fristi @rin i think that's what high school was for tbh
