@dioma >Why are they all so terribly unoriginal??I'm convinced that a lot of people trying to go into gamedev aside from lacking talent and vision, also tend to crave money and fame. They absolutely want to be seen by the internet and world like Notch was (before the coordinated attack on him by the 41% army). It's the same reason NPCs want to be rappers, sportsball players, and livestreamers. Then Cruelty Squad comes out and it's made by a literal outsider who struggled for ages with art galleries refusing to give a shit about his art/galleries before he became a gamedev. Most art games aren't pulled off well however as the endless sea of shit on itch.io shows.>Why the fuck would anyone want your 1 man knockoff? Is it fun to you to make a worse version of an existing product?A lot of people want corporations to make a specific type of game again, the big corporations don't make them anymore, and said game lacks a mod SDK. It's what led to Sonic fangame developers becoming indie game developers. Really, that's what gets a lot of people into indie game development these days. >OverambitiousI think so many indie developers forget this, and there are so many indie games that had scope creep and development hell. Battlecruiser 3000AD and No Man's Sky launched unfinished, Fez took 5+ years, among other things. Freedom Planet 2 has been in development so long (6+ years) that in that time Trump came/left office, the Xbox One and PS4 got replaced, Windows 11 came out, the lead dev got a sex change, and it is STILL not out yet.

There are like 3 big categories of awful:1. Puzzle platformerIdk know who want to play the one milionth platformer with maybe 1 stand out gimmick. Usuay these games are created by beginners, because they are easy to make and it shows. Please stop.2. "I played a game recently and really want to dev my own version"Newsflash: factorio, Super Mario, mirrors edge, city skylines, etc already exist. They where developed by a team of professionals with a budget. Why the fuck would anyone want your 1 man knockoff? Is it fun to you to make a worse version of an existing product?3. OverambitiousThe classic. One man with know clue how much work game dev really is trying to make the next aaa, mmo, or even team developed indie. You won't make your own ori and the blind forest alone. Yanderedev is still paying for his sins of overscoping.

I watch a lot of game devlogs on YouTube and have yet to see a single game I'd want to play. How come?? Why are they all so terribly unoriginal??Do you have to suck at gamedev to become a YouTube?
