"women should be drafted too!!!" he types on his alienware laptop in his airconditioned mother's basement with stubby, cheeto dusted fingers.
-
@georgia complaints of that kind definitely were felt; just not made because people called you baby
-
men who haven't fought a day in their life will talk about how female privilege is not going to war. it's a bit funny how little complaints of this sort were made in times and places where men actually were drafted into horrendous conflicts and subjected to all manner of manmade and natural indignities. of course, most men are not drafted, and many aren't subject to draft at all, including those unfit for war, and measured up to male standards very few healthy women are fit, and combined with then-contemporary attitudes that women ought to have children they're caring for (something people who decry female privilege tend to agree with) it just seemed self evident to them that it was grievous misappropriation of resources in wartime to draft women. "they send their women and children to war" was an ancient accusation made with horror and an insinuation of moral depravity kindred to accusations of killing infant children by exposure. the natural conclusion of this is that "women should be drafted too" is a vindictive statement made not out spite that some men are drafted and all women aren't, but that all women benefit from a relatively novel socio-legal consensus of equality of the sexes while still enjoying freedom from a hypothetical future draft. of course, the draft is a barbaric thing. no one ought to be drafted. and that's what they ought to be saying.

@georgia reading e.g. grandfather's note about being drafted and sent off to starve in north africa, guys got extremely blackpilled and just shut up and turned alcoholic
-
@georgia and then countries out there right now doing compulsory military service for every single boy is like "yeh, torture and/or indentured servitude builds character; just be glad we didn't happen to be war at the time, oh wait now we are
-
@georgia i'll never be drafted because sickly old woman in us. just forcing small boys through military service program really sucks war stuff aside, and then russia etc is always fighting someonechildren should not be sent to die or watch other people be dead, and they also shouldn't be put through torture / indentured servitude camps to prepare for it
-
@shmibs lol, lmao, rotflmao, very few of the countries with active drafts are actually at war, and the ones that are still treat women as second class to varying extents. but sure, live in fear that one day you'll be drafted.
-
@georgia arguing "men in the past agreed with draft and it ought to be for men" though is just not. like 1940s us boy hoping to go to college and then packed away on ship is not some homeric greek warrior, and "serve the country" propaganda doesn't reflect what he's thinking. that boy has no voice, though, except in personal diary nobody else can see
-
@shmibs i certainly agree with that
-
@finn @georgia then i'd be dead probably?somewhat hopeful mutually-assured destruction can progress things past that point though. not been attacked since 真珠湾 thing 80 years ago
-
@shmibs @georgia what about if your country was attacked?
-
@georgia suggesting children being sent to war not having some "i am the warrior and women are inferior" mindset unless they're christian or muslim or somethingbut have personally known several contemporary teen boys being put through forced military and getting extremely jealous-ish
-
@shmibs you're really suggesting that sixteen year old boy soldiers were thinking "this should be for women too", come now. it was culturally anathema.
-
@finn @georgia all be ded (they as well) probablyor murder bots
-
@shmibs @georgia but if attacked country doesn't have that "somewhat", what do we do then?
