@pingviini @lain @orekix one thing that stuck out to me was America's freedom of speech rating going down during Trump's term for unspecified reasons while Obama charged journalists and whistleblowers under the Espionage Act.

@orekix @lain what do they consider abuse of democratic values during a pandemic to be? I'm assuming they don't consider violation of informed consent an abuse.

@lain not germany but I saw a video a few days ago of some anti-lockdown protests in the netherlands and cops were just beating people for the gatheringon the same day theguardian posts this image showing them as one of the most 'democratic' during the pandemic

@Moon @lain @pingviini @orekix in practice hundreds of journalists were beaten up, arrested, had equipment smashed, were shot in the face and lost eyes etc

@Moon @lain @pingviini @orekix it was hundreds, yes; can see recorded still at press freedom trackerand trimp response to assange and snowden questions was "i think they are bad spies and need to be locked away". like of course he's not "the only person to ever do a bad thing", but freedom-of-speech stuff he did make significantly worse in many ways, including internet stuff (confusing entire country about what 230 does, dump net neutrality, etc
