according to my analysis, the main reason why people are quitting their job is because 'it sucks' and they 'hate it' and they'd 'rather do something else'
-
@lain pure math is still based.
-
@rice nice! math might one of the few things are still nice at unis
-
@lain now I found the comfiest way to earn money whilst studying (lucked into an academic job, I’m doing a pure math degree now btw) with people who are turboautists, super happy rn
-
@lain every time I quit my job I only got happier. can recommend.

@rice @lain ah gosh but it isn't so much work? 幼馴染 is maths postdoc, and those tired eyes are so tired ._.
-
@rice @lain ah mmm, guess just kinda seemed it has more expectation for needing to "prove" yourself than most other fields, having to work hard, but if you can do it then that's really neat; glad to hear ^^...ah, and maybe slightly jealous too, wanna go back to school ????

@shmibs @lain yeah, but if you love doing it and it’s your true passion then it works out. but it’s also as much work as you’re willing to do. you don’t *have* to be in academia this way if you are overly exhausted, you can earn money some other way and do maths on the side later as well. but it’s good to go through academia at least until postdoc phase so you have connections as well
