I wonder if there's actually a way to have a browser like Firefox that the hardcore users REALLY like. I use Firefox almost exclusively, but I can see that they'd have no way to actually have a company around it without having the things that regular users expect, like DRM so they can listen to spotify.

@lain pay whomever, websites will expect the same mess to be supported, so result must be messy?

@shmibs I think it's mostly a 'FOSS people don't want to pay but do want to complain' problem

@slowfallinward @lain am thinking so, mmm. here have simple, stable foss solutions for everything do with computer except for browser, which has seen experience slowly degrade over past 10 years, with removed features and added bugs

@lain @shmibs Other thing I don't get is that this *was* clearly viable 10-15y ago. Firefox didn't start all this moneygrubbing til reasonably recently. What is special about now if not increasing complexity?
