@Moon @GaryPaulWood @hckr seems to me that 禅問答 stuff goes more like socrates trying to induce aporia, purpose not "convey information" but "make them doubt they think they know". so look for meaning becomes like read tender buttons for plot

@GaryPaulWood in all seriousness @hckr got right except they're not gibberish they are just nonlinear and nonrational ways of learning. They do not hand-hold. you may have to have previous knowledge before you could hope to understand them. I guess a bunch of them probably don't make sense because one doesn't have intense instruction in buddhism or specific instruction by the teacher who made the koan.So basically they are like indie music. Oh you haven't heard this koan? It's pretty underground. maybe you don't understand it because you don't have enough buddhistical knowledge and need something made for babies.

@Moon The way of "the mystic"And a good example of narcissist rage

@GaryPaulWood the master presented a lit candle to the student and asked "where does the flame come from?" The student blew out the candle and told the master, tell me where it went and I'll tell you where it came from. The master, humiliated, beat the student.

Is it just me or do some koans seem like gibberish or even gaslighting?Like the zen "master" just blurted out whatever and knew that the student would just take whatever they gave them because they're a sucker? Like a complete rube?Like this oneWhat is the Buddha?Three pounds of flaxAnd anyone that called them out on bullshitting would be kicked out and bad mouthed by "the enlightened" students getting ripped off happily
