@sim the only thing I don't like about this is the books are all consistent like they're just decoration or something. bookshelves should look messy, that is my aesthetic.
-
@Moon @xue @sim old books look same is typicalP1090936.JPG
-
@xue @sim I've seen collections like the collected works of Cervantes where they are all consistent size and color like the books on display there.
-
@Moon @sim wait, those arent encyclopedias, or are they? that would be really cheating
-
@xue @sim I mean that reference works are obsolete so they're de facto decoration, if you spend your life collecting interesting books they are not gonna look like that at all.
-
@sim @Moon i just wanted to point out that old hardcover releases were much more consistent in the biding's shape and form
-
@xue @Moon Well, this is in a castle. Usually not allowed to touch what is in there. That's all I meant.
-
@sim @Moon i dont think so, they are just old hardcovers
-
@Moon In this case, I suppose they would be considered decoration. You're meant to look but not touch them. Not sure which is my aesthetic there.

@xue @Moon @sim (sorry; i type very slowly right now, focussing hard, and miss things XX

@shmibs @Moon @sim jesus not, no no noHow many times we can rephrase the same informationx5?x6?Yo Moon, what interesting books you bought recently?Show the library in the new apartment

@Moon @xue @sim wasn't going to mention ????
-
@xue @shmibs @sim shmibs please ignore top left cubbie I bought some Japanese books at a flea market and the person would only sell me them if I bought the whole box of books which turned out to be mostly BL
-
@xue @sim @shmibs thale last book I bought was in 2019 about the Shikoku pilgrimage I didn't get to go on in 2020, I have transitioned to digital and don't buy books anymore. I don't appreciate them as decoration or social signals anymore.
-
@xue @Moon @sim hard books here needed because- can focus on them fully, doing immersion is hard on screens- easier to read typesetting than epub mess- sense of "location" makes flipping to things and referencing easy- can hand them to people- carry without some "digital thing" and read in sun while walking- lots of old books not digitised at all- used hard copies also cheaper

@Moon @shmibs @sim i have a few books, few textbooks (for example one for Probability theory that i wore to death) but my parents have books on books on books. Digital is cool but you cant make notes on the margins.Screenshot_2022-05-11_03-17-23.png
