   @Weeble @Moon @emilis @shibao rose is associated for a long time with gay men, and 百合 for girls actually seems came first from barazoku magazine, guys labelling themselves with "bara" using lily for girlsof course most people in any country are hating, though, so same things used one context in one place becomes an insult somewhere else. like the people avoided "lez" and call themselves "bian" because "lez" was being used most for insultingand fujo was an outsider insult that was then adopted, while yaoi was self-invented

     @Weeble @Moon @emilis @shibao and "yaoi has sex involved" is from us scanlation sites, having "yaoi/yuri" terms go together because "they both have y" when don't know what they mean sounds reasonable, and then had "shounen ai" for bl stuff and invented "shoujo ai" (when japanese invent english terms it's 和製英語, so i guess this would be 洋製日本語？, western-invented japanese ????) term to match it. then had these 4 categories and it was convenient to use them for sorting ero or not
