@am @Telvannichad after spending like a week playing with urbit I came away pretty disappointed in the tech. It's like a "computer science fever dream". Ideas, philosophy, ideology, but just terrible implementation and practicality.
And that's coming from who makes video games for TempleOS and enjoys Moldbug :moldbug1:

@crunklord420 @Telvannichad i've been working on it for three years and its always been like an "artistic interest", i'm interested in what i'm capable of building on top of the thing. we managed to make landscape work okay over two years. for whatever reason, it has momentum, more ppl keep coming, more things keep happening to make it more real, and i'd rather be with that momentum than not. that's sort of how i operate

@am @Telvannichad a job? I don't understand how "urbit companies" exist. I just assume it's basically VC grants being thrown around. Do actual W2 employees exist?

@crunklord420 @Telvannichad the ppl bankrolling urbit companies tend to be crypto whales who are utopian libertarian types. as for my own company, we survive doing external contracts and making more than we spend, like anything else. not just urbit stuff, its just part of the portfolio
