   thing i reckon hasn't quite registered with many of the newcomers yet: this isn't a fully connected network where every server talks to every other server.

   your view of the Fediverse depends on what server you live on.

   this is also what makes it scalable to a massive user count. every server doesn't literally have to handle the traffic from the whole network. only the traffic from followed accounts and any relays the admins may have added.

     @mxtthxw That's the way I do it; after more than for years in my single-user instance, I've followed more that 400 accounts that I've found interesting (at some time, and I've unfollowed if not).
     Somehow, using a relay seems to me like being in a "consumer mode": give me contents!! The way I do it, though being slower, it's more enjoyable :)

     @thor is there a way of knowing how much additional strain adding a relay will add?

     Managed to break mine yesterday to to additional relay traffic.

     @aab that's good to hear. I thought there was a risk of being siloed. I like to hear a wide range of opinions, regardless whether I agree or not. I hope it will make my brain a bit better somehow...
