it's difficult to escape such communities. you leave your family behind - they will cut you off. your entire life up to this point will be gone. you have no education/degree, so difficulties finding work. the indoctrinated value system is fundamentally different from the host society, which causes guilt and regret.

this applies to all of closed off communities, like Amish or Scientology.
