the concept of express lanes in supermarkets is stupid and counterproductive. customers have a lower bound to how fast they can be serviced regardless of number of items. if there is a high volume of customers it makes more sense to have a slow lane where only people with more than 15 items can enter so more people can be serviced concurrently.
