    @revueltafeminista @colegota Buena pregunta. Dudo que tenga una respuesta fácil, pero me encantaría equivocarme.

    Mantener un vídeo online, incluso aunque nadie lo vea, tiene gasto energético, puesto que está alojado en un servidor. En este supuesto, gastaría lo mismo un vídeo en youtube o en una instancia de peertube.

    Si el vídeo se reproduce, quizá la naturaleza P2P de peertube haga que, cuando se visualice el vídeo desde otras instancias de peertube que no sean la original, el gasto energético se distribuya entre diferentes zonas del mundo. Desde este punto de vista, es un enfoque que facilita una mayor redistribución del gasto energético. Aún así, el gasto está ahí. (sigo)

    En el aspecto que veo una diferencia más palpable es que, en una instancia de peertube, la energía que se gaste corresponde a la descarga del vídeo. Cuando ves un vídeo en youtube, además de la energía necesaria para verlo, también hay que añadir toda la energía que la empresa emplea para hacer seguimiento de todo lo que se hace en su plataforma, almacenamiento de los datos obtenidos, redistribución de los datos a terceras partes para su análisis, etc.

    No tengo datos de la energía extra necesaria para la labor de recolección de datos personales, pero no creo que sean cifras despreciables.

    Bajo estos parámetros, incluso sin poder evitar que youtube siga alojando los vídeos, veo más positivo que se recuperen para peertube, puesto que, al menos, posibilitas un visionado que use menos energía.

    People with climate despair seem rather unfazed when it comes to the concrete suffering of people in war torn territories. They like it when the pain, the despair is vague, abstract, intangible, impalpable; but when it is the present pain of suffering people, they seem to shrug.

    I don't feel climate despair. I'm not desperate because of the "climate future". This feeling has a flair of snobbery to me. (I have strong feelings about the current war in Europe.) Mostly and primarily I feel hope, an unfounded and exuberant hope. In the end, humans are wonderful, despite everything.

    Indeed, the end is near. But that doesn't prevent the Russians from conducting their scorched earth war on Ukraine. If they cannot have Ukraine, they make sure nobody can live there anymore, regardless how many untrained Russian soldiers they'll have to sacrifice for that goal. Russia ceased to be a part of Europe. (That it ever could be a part is the great illusion of European countries like Germany...)

    No, they aren't. It's Soviet time old equipment; and the stocks of their high precision ammunition are pretty much depleted. There is a reason they need to turn to Iran and ask for drones to help them in their genocidal war against Ukraine.
