I think I'd love to visit Japan, if I could handle the flight. But then again, I think I'd be totally unprepared without the language and without a confident grasp on the etiquette.

Why has mastodon.social gone invite-only two weeks ago? I grew tired of it being used as a hallway, where people enter, make a mess, then move on. It is my home, and I've put a lot into keeping it fast, secure and up-to-date.

Being invite-only means safer timelines, primarily, as trolls and people whose first instinct on a new social platform is to upload their uncensored dick have a harder time getting in.

The ruby gem mastodon-api 2.0.0 is released with breaking changes:

Also I'm gonna switch it back to threading all toots, but I need to figure out how to make it only thread chapters together, to avoid megathreads for performance reasons.

Hmm, I think I need to make the bot stop at sentences, rather than allowing it to split sentences between toots...

I was going to announce it a bit later and more properly, but Mastodon received a $70k grant from Samsung NEXT through OpenCollective. I intend to make it available to those who contribute to the project, and have already notified some of the most regular contributors. The way OpenCollective works is that anyone can submit an expense and all transactions are listed transparently. It also holds the money.

As for myself, I intend to continue using Patreon for my own wage/costs.
