Yep, it was rejected! The bridge application won't be working as it has no way to check your Twitter friends without Twitter API access.

Maybe it has outlived its use anyway though!

I have applied for API access from the Mastodon Twitter account, waiting for it to be reviewed. Honestly, if I were Twitter, I would not allow API use for a platform that aims to replace it, but we'll see.

Ah fuck, I realize that this is irresponsible but turns out bridge.joinmastodon.org is broken because I deleted my Twitter account a good while ago. Ugh.

@staticsafe I have run another update on the public_key column to source it from the actual keypair, and given them a patch to (temporarily) undo the IP-based fix. In a day or more the accounts should be considered stale, and key caches on other servers should update and fix themselves. To check that it worked, I manually updated key caches on mastodon.social, and was able to successfully communicate with knzk.me

@staticsafe A couple things. If my understanding of the events is correct, the security fix that rate-limits failures in signature verification by source IP backfired on knzk.me because their Puma does not see the real IP address (proxy misconfig). In search of solution, they reset all RSA keys as well, wherein I discovered a bug in the tootctl command that does that, so the accounts were advertising one public key, while signing with another.

How long should accounts with a redirect be kept? Perhaps indefinitely, but I think some admins might appreciate an opportunity to free up space. Thoughts?

Side-note:

Instance is synonymous with server, and I think using the word "instance" was a bit of a mistake on my part during early Mastodon development. It's a programming term that less people are familiar with from other contexts. I suggest using "server" in your UIs

The more Mastodon servers there, are, the better. The more spread out people are across them, the more the network is resilient to various failure modes.

The basic premise of Mastodon is that you follow your friends from different servers! So go forth, and explore the fediverse ☺️

Saw a tumblr post warning people that twitter might do the same thing as tumblr to artists, which yes, they very well might. The fediverse should prepare to accept new users, more art-themed servers might be good.
