@noellabo Oh no, I’m so sorry ???? There might be even more types in future versions though (e.g. in-app account warnings?), I hope developers can fix their code to expect unknown types going forward...
Reminder that you can enable "Auto-play animated GIFs" in preferences, which is off by default, to experience animated avatars, emojis, and well, GIFs, if you so desire.
I wanted to mention this because the messages in my notifications suggest the new folks might not be aware of this, but the timing is actually quite relevant: I've been working on Mastodon full-time for 4 years. Mastodon was first revealed to the public in a Show HN post around this time in 2016.
Mastodon does not store passwords in plain text. This is trivial to confirm as Mastodon is an open-source project. We use the bcrypt algorithm for one-way hashing of passwords. I can't believe someone is spreading misinformation about something so trivial to debunk.
Welcome to the fediverse. With your account on mastodon.online you get access to people from lots of other Mastodon servers (in fact, this message you're reading originates from mastodon.social!). You can follow people from these other servers and you can even move your account (incl. your followers) to another server. Beyond that server stuff the UI should be familiar enough, there's a lot of mobile apps.
