    @tuxcrafting UTF-8 is US-ASCII with extra latches for switching to multibyte mode. There is no benefit to using it if you're either:
    1. writing a text in English only (but then why the fuck would you not declare it as ASCII in the first place?!)
    2. not mixing characters or glyphs from a different 8bit single-byte encoding
    . For a document or e-mail written purely in, say, Polish, using Unicode is just harmful. A proper declaration of a charset is sufficient and certainly more elegant a solution than fucking Unicode :rokalife:

    @dwaltiz @deadheat it's a clear signal, not a clear picture. CRTs would naturally smooth out the dithering that pollutes it. On a worse video encoder, such as the one in my SCPH-9002, the picture is too filthy to notice it. And don't get me started on how that would look like on a modern telly with all the bullshit scalers those use.Pic related is a PS2 game using S-Video picture.

    Daily reminder that Unicode is bloat and ISO 8859-2 is inappropriate for Polish despite being standard due to inappropriate punctuation glyphs available. ASCII quotations are not permissible. Thankfully the Baltic encoding has full Polish coverage.

    @deadheat @Dolus an ancient PCI TV/video capture card I got for ~15 zł on an auction and any v4l2-capable media player (in this case tvtime, which also has a nifty interface to switch v4l2 parameters on the fly, but ffplay, part of the ffmpeg package, does this very well too). The lag is practically nonexistent.
