Here is a counterpoint: maybe self-hosting isn't about one person, one server. I think most self-hosting enthusiasts would be (and are) happily sharing their servers with other people, family, friends, community.
This solves the massive problem of hyper centralisation not with hyper individualism (which, I agree, comes with its own risks) but by reducing our dependency on VC bullshit driven surveillance services.

Here's a thought: self-hosting all technology, a common end goal of many software freedom enthusiasts, has nothing to do with freedom. Rather, it's the logical end of hyper-individualism applied to source code.

Sobre la gata (que no el gato), no es imposible, pero es altamente improbable :) Es una gata que estuvo de acogida en casa, y se fue a su hogar definitivo con una familia alemana.
Si ya me dices que eres parte de esa familia alemana, me caigo de culo. Y en cuanto me levante, te pido fotos actuales 😻

@tachan A ver... puede ser una barbaridad si está mal hecho, pero ese mensaje para atemorizar a la gente me parece un error. El #selfhosting es una expresión de soberanía tecnológica, no del país donde vivas, sino de tí y de tu entorno.
Si tienes ganas, métele! Hay miles de tutoriales, y por supuesto, pregunta lo que necesites. No ahora, que me voy, pero sí a partir del domingo 😂

@tachan También uso Pepephone. En varios años sólo he tenido dos incidencias, y las dos han sido porque me han vuelto a configurar CG-NAT, que no tengo activado desde el mismo día que contraté su servicio.
La última vez, la persona con la que hable, pese a ser atenta y amable, me decía que "no me podían abrir los puertos 80 ni 443 porque estaban reservados para Pepephone".
Seguí insistiendo, no permití que cerraran la incidencia, y finalmente me llamaron de nuevo. Esta vez era un técnico, menos amable, pero que solventó el problema en cuestión de minutos, y me dijo que lo que me habían contado era una tontería. Ya lo sabía, pero al menos reconforta...
Resumiendo: abre incidencia y dales la paliza hasta que lo hagan bien.

@josealberto4444 A mí me aparece un icono redondo (como los de "subir" en las webs) que me lleva al último mensaje no leído. Esto en Element a través de nextcloud.
Eso sí, fino no va... se atranca bastante, y para mí, que tengas que usar ratón sí o sí, sin poder usar el cursor, para poder subir y bajar, me parece una caquita.

@Stoori Just in case: is the port forwarted in the router? And maybe it is worth trying to open a port in the mac and try ShieldsUp - https://www.grc.com/default.htm, so you know if incoming connections are blocked or not.

@bufalo1973 Well, not in the way I think about it. If it is implemented in an "opt-in" way, servers which adhere to it will gain an anti-spam measure; servers which won't will stay the same as we are now.

I think the collaborative approach is the way to go: a common (as much as possible) database of spam mails. As soon as the first server is affected, the spam mail is stored and the rest of the servers are aware of it, automatically rejecting the creation of an account.
I'm no programmer though, don't know if this would be a lot of work...
