@maxmustermann @nik @xj9 @Moon it's not superstition, it's statistics.
The cloth coverings and bandanas? Those do nothing to protect *you*. This is correct. These only slow the spread, *in aggregate*, by reducing the number of droplets an asymptomatic carrier (that is, most people who get the virus) ejects, and by making them travel less distance.
(K)N-95 masks work. Period. It's been proven, over and over and over again. No, nothing works 100% of the time. But the entire point is to *reduce*. You're essentially arguing that anything less than perfection isn't even worth doing. It's a bad faith argument at this point.
But none of this was ever about science, or principles, or anything like that. You got your programming, you're faithfully executing it. The grown ups are assessing information and coming to rational decisions, and updating them when new information comes in.
"muh it's too small to be filtered"No, it is not necessary for something to be precisely the size of the filter openings and no smaller in order to be filtered. Survival nuts use sand to remove impurities from water, surely they can understand the concept.
"muh freedom of movement"1) I'm so sorry a mask weighing 3.5 grams is restricting your movement. I'd be happy to drive you to physical therapy.
2) private business, etc. pretend it's a bakery that only makes straight cakes and you'll understand.
3) no freedom is absolute. you can't yell fire in a crowded movie theater, nor can you knowingly spread disease to a crowded movie theater. your rights end where others' begin.
"muh china virus"yeah, CCP's a bitch, ain't it? I can't imagine why you're mad at literally every asian person though.... part of the reason the CCP is such a bitch is, well, they're really secretive about the shit they're doing. maybe recognize this as a clandestine biological attack by the chinese government and behave accordingly? at the moment, you're literally arguing for your "right" to further the interests of a foreign government by sicking your own countrymen.
"muh 99.99% survivability"Would you fly in an airplane if 1 in 1000 flights crashed? also, that number is wrong. it's 99% *at best*, which, at that spectacularly generous rate, is still 10x (that's 1000%, btw) deadlier than the flu.
"muh it's just a cold"there are known long-term effects, and it's almost certain we'll discover more over time. I just can't imagine wanting so bad for your own body to be permanently damaged. it makes even less sense when you argue for your "right" to cause others' bodies to become permanently damaged
