@lain @Moon @NeikoCat @igel german immigration policies are actually pretty cruel and unreasonable tbh (tho by american standards they're downright welcoming). mostly i'm just stunned by the quality of life here and how well people treat each other, how few people wind up homeless, how the state actually takes an interest in protecting people, and how there's an actual sense of community. (e.g. i keep talking to europeans who are totally shocked when they find out there's basically no welfare or no "duty to rescue" whatsoever in the US and you're always entitled to let others die except in extremely specific circumstances, mostly for doctors.) germans seems to have high expectations of themselves and each other, and i've almost never seen the kind of abject, careless selfishness that's just standard in the US.also everything is so affordable; we don't have to burn our entire income on rent anymore, and the entire country is just beautiful beyond belief

@Moon @NeikoCat @igel i've from cascadia, which has a reputation for being particularly nice, and haven't really seen much of the rest of the country, but judging from the places i've lived and visited, you'd think hell was empty and all the demons were there

@Moon @igel @NeikoCat germany at least is still quite nice out in the countrysidethe germans are wonderful people too, i never realized just how devoid of basic humanity 99% of americans are until i saw how kind, respectful, and friendly practically all germans are
