So now it’s around 1 month since we start to maintain Pawoo.net . I want to be more transparent on the cost.
Screenshot is the cost of AWS + CDN for pawoo (not including mstdn.jp / mastodon.cloud which are not using aws and using diff CDN).
There are lots of optimization we can do but for now the cost for all 3 instance is around 45k$ (just rough estimates).
The payroll of maintainers and devs for app/backend is covered by our other businesses so not gonna calculate here. (Est 4 full time)

Maintainer of Mstdn.jp / Mastodon.cloud / Pawoo.net will have a zoom AMA/interview in 2 hours (9:10 PM EST, 11:10 AM JST). The interview will be 1 hour long and will take questions in English. @darnell will ask questions.

After we step in I did an interview (in Japanese mostly) with @mikamiyoh . This time with Pawoo - how about let us do an interview in English? Who’s the best interviewer? Open for any questions.
Also since mastodon don’t have ‘clubhouse/space’. Let’s figure out a best way?

PS: I will spend my holiday + new yr in some mountains in Japan so we can do this tmr or after new year.

In the past 2yrs we roughly deployed 2M$ to general Fediverse system (if you count DIDs, more than that). The distribution is not that fair and lots just went to IDC/AWS. In the upcoming years we would like to deploy more through donating, investing and fellowship programs; ideally 1M$ per year. Also wanna form some committees on this. Let’s see what’s the best way.

@natsuki the cost of maintain .cloud .jp and pawoo (including server and payroll) is around 70-80K $ per month. Could be lower if we do optimization smoothly.

@nmkj instead saying registered in off shore counties is avoiding regulator I’d say the cyberspace is independent from nation state government sooner or later. You can checkout 1996’s ‘A Declaration of Independence of cyberspace’ and further works such as ‘sovereign individual’, ‘Network State’

@nmkj I think social network should be infra of the upcoming network state. It just happen to be also reside in countries such as Japan and US

@nmkj I also fear US is having much worse regulation on social networks, considering pawoo have lots of anime content.
