@codl i mean seriously though there‘s so much stuff where your brain will just kind of go „eh, good enough“ and that‘s how nearly all of real time rendering works

normal maps that only kind of fake surface details? good enough! Screen-space AO? Eh, seems rightish. Screenspace reflection and refraction? Eeeh.

@codl the trick here is the following: human beings have absolutely no idea how reflections work so as long as a reflection is plausible-ish it‘s all good.

@quarky I mean, triangles are definitely the better idea for rendering

but anything but quads just causes SO MUCH TROUBLE when trying to 3D model

they should like, pop up a dialog. "hey, I've noticed you're trying to fuck yourself over. maybe reconsider so your future self will not hate you?"

my first, second and all following mistakes was assuming I could have geometry that isn't quads without everything going wrong

3D modeling programs honestly just shouldn't let you create not quads without jumping through a bunch of hoops
