@nev @cwebber Yeah, that's why I refer to some crypto-techbro software like Signal as “maleware”:
it uses perfectly fine cryptography to hide the contents of your communications, but you can only have one identity, and it's your phone number, so you can't use it with anyone you wouldn't trust with your number :(
Also, anyone who has your number is automatically informed you use Signal.
(I could also complain about it not doing anything about metadata, but that entirely misses the point)
