@rice @the_gayest_doggo i'm all for this kind of stuff, maybe i'm just put of by the (in my mind) rather pretentious name. there's nothing punk about subsistence economy.

Serious recommendation: if you like solarpunk, get another hobby.
-
@the_gayest_doggo well, lots of solarpunk is really just about the aesthetics, which i don't mind at all, but pretends to be about the moral aspects of sustainability.
And that's why you have solarpunk magazines that will host their website on a raspberry pi and dither images to 'save energy' instead of doing the actually environmentally sensible thing and hosting it normally on a big machine with thousands of other sites.
-
@the_gayest_doggo @DetectiveHyde was that solar panel made 'off the grid'? was the raspberry pi? was the router? you can't escape the grid. You also don't need to use sketchy hosters, there are plenty of trustworthy hosters or you can start a co-op for that.
for me this is like people saving the planet by buying $120k teslas.

@rice @the_gayest_doggo @LWFlouisa tbh it might seem to that for city people, but when i visited relatives during christmas they do have a cheap house in the country, they do grow their own food, they have chickens, stuff like that. This isn't as rare as us city techies might think.

mmm
it feels what mrrs me most is the insistence on a faction. "adopt our ideology! it's shiny and it's new!". put down the kierkegaard and think a bit...
in drawing lines, the "faction" makes and grows its enemy. at best this means "hot topic vs. moms", but given time it can create a monster.
advance enough and "enemy" supplants the ideology. because they've not thought "what they're for", it's now "who *we're* *against*". run long enough and it becomes a bloody revolution; and revolutions come in twos and threes (and fives and eights and tens).
stop quoting *people*, stop *naming* things. who said it has no bearing, and the boxes are a crutch.
share ideas and reasoning; help people *choose* to *think*.
a faction is where meaning goes to die.
